Oktoberfest is a German celebration that has been around for years. 182 years to be exact! It was first a celebration of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage, but now it’s all about celebrating autumn, love, and having fun. You can always count on good music, even better food, and probably the most beer you’ve ever seen in your life. The celebration happens in the early fall so guests can enjoy the weather without their teeth chattering all night. Millions are in attendance, yes millions! Folks from all over the world travel to Munich each year for this grand celebration.

Not able to make a quick, cheap trip over to Europe for Oktoberfest? Good news! You can celebrate Oktoberfest here in the 801! Snowbird Resort holds an Oktoberfest celebration that gets bigger and better every year. While you won’t be experiencing the festival along with millions of people, there will be crowds in the thousands. They had over 60,000 in attendance last year! Promise you’ll have just as much fun as you would in Munich, Germany! Men’s Journal even included it in their top 10 US Celebrations of Oktoberfest list, read more here. Did we mention festival entrance is free?

Enjoy a variety of beers, special edition brews included. Refills are affordable, and wine and non alcoholic beverages are also offered. Some folks go overboard on the alcohol so make sure you are drinking responsibly, friends! Make sure you save your refillable mugs to bring back next year, and you’ll save a couple bucks on your beer! You know we’re always excited about the food. Enjoy German specialties like bratwursts, sausages, and sauerkraut. Don’t skip out on that German chocolate cake either.

Now this is a celebration, remember? Stop drooling over the thought of German cake and listen up. You can enjoy live performances of traditional German waltzes and jam out to German folk music. If you’re not into dancing enjoy one of the many activities Snowbird has to offer! Rides like the alpine coaster, ropes courses, and rock climbing walls included. Snowbird is always a great place to hike too! There will be plenty of performances and games catered to the kiddos as well.

Do you rock a hefty beard? If you’re nodding your head and your facial is moving up and down, we highly recommend you enter the Oktoberfest Beard Contest on Saturday, August 27 from 1pm to 4pm. Snowbird has teamed up with Salt Saints Social Club and Facial Hair Society to host a beard and mustache contest. A portion of competition fees are donated to “Wasatch Adaptive Sports”, a non profit organization that offers sports and activities to veterans and folks of all ages with special needs. Register here, tickets are $20 if purchased ahead of time, and $25 at the door. Wax, hairspray, and other facial hair products are totally allowed but don’t you dare try to sneak in beard extensions! The best part of all this, is that there’s a kids beard competition! It’s free for all the kiddos, and they can rock a fake beard or mustache. Don’t worry, everybody wins the competition! Losing a fake beard competition could be really painful to a little ones ego.

Oktoberfest is happening every Saturday and Sunday now until October 9th from 12pm to 6pm. They’re even open Labor Day! Contact and parking information here.

We’re ready for fall now!
